Why create this Prize ?
"Although in my daily life as a gallery owner I spend a lot of time trying to discover new artists, I am necessarily limited and I only scratch the surface of the incredible pool of talent scattered across France and around the world.
The objective of this call for applications is therefore first and foremost for the Galerie Bessaud to be able to amplify this capacity for discovery as much as possible, hoping to reveal artists from all backgrounds and at all levels in their careers.
Furthermore, the choice of artists to exhibit is very often top-down: when I prepare our exhibitions, I make my choice, which is necessarily biased, necessarily subjective and linked to the history of the gallery. Thanks to the independent jury that makes up this prize, the winners are chosen by different and very varied perspectives, bringing a new prism that will allow me to explore directions that I would surely never have thought of!

Galerie Bessaud : where winners will be exhibited
Founded by Arthur Bessaud in 2023, La Galerie Bessaud is a contemporary art gallery that aims to be eclectic, open and educational, located just off Place de la Bastille, at 24bis rue de Charenton, Paris.
Since its opening, around fifteen exhibitions have been held, presenting numerous established artists from France and around the world through group exhibitions, with an emphasis on the multiplicity of mediums (painting, ceramics, arts and crafts, photography, etc.), diversity and inclusivity in curation (gender parity among the artists exhibited, audio guides for the visually impaired, etc.), as well as pedagogy (production of numerous explanatory materials: booklets, video documentaries, etc.).
Our goal is to enable collectors and art enthusiasts to continually make new discoveries, both of emerging French artists and international artists with more established careers, all within surprising and positive exhibitions.
